Toothaches are extremely painful because we have so many nerves and blood vessels running along our jaw lines. The best treatment without a doubt, is to visit your dentist, but if you’re in pain, you don’t have to wait until your next appointment to ease the pain. These 5 home remedies will help you temporarily relieve the pain from your toothache.

1. Garlic

Garlic has been known for many years to serve as a pain reliever, and as an ingredient that can kill harmful bacteria.

You can either chew on a fresh clove of garlic over the tooth that’s causing you pain, or you can grind it up and rub it on the tooth as a paste.

2. Cold Compress

Whether we’re exercising, sleeping, or fighting off a virus, our body regulates its internal temperature for many reasons.

When there is inflammation or swelling around your tooth, one of the best things you can do to treat the issue is to manually regulate the internal temperature near the tooth by applying a cold compress. The cold temperature will cause the blood vessels to constrict, which will make the pain reduce significantly.

3. Salt Water

Salt water is the most popular remedy for a tooth ache because of its accessibility and its effectiveness.

All you have to have for this remedy is salt from the kitchen and a little bit of water. Just take a pinch of salt and a glass of lukewarm water, and use this mixture as a mouthwash.

4. Vanilla Extract

Vanilla extract is an antioxidant, and it contains alcohol, making this an excellent ingredient to treat your toothache.

The alcohol in this ingredient will help numb the pain, and it will clean the tooth, helping remove any harmful bacteria that may be contributing to the pain.

5. Thyme Or Clove Oil

These two herbs are known to be excellent anti-inflammatory ingredients. If you don’t have one of these oils in your kitchen, don’t worry! You can still take these herbs and make a tea out of them, which will produce a similar result.
